How does the collar calculate its position?

Adjusting position sending frequency

When your dog is on the move (walking, running, in the car...), the Minitailz sends its position at a certain frequency, which you can choose in the Profile section of the app when you are close to the collar (Bluetooth connection). The more intensive the mode, the more accurate the history of positions, but the shorter the battery life. When your dog stops moving, the collar stops sending regular positions to save battery.

Authorize the app to geolocate you for an optimal experience

The collar uses several technologies for optimized position tracking: first, the collar will check if your smartphone is nearby via Bluetooth connection, and if so, it will ask the app to calculate its position on its behalf, provided you have granted it permission. The app will only use your position in this context, at the request of the collar. This allows for significant battery savings. If your smartphone is not nearby, the Minitailz will rely on Wifi Positioning System or GPS to compute its position.Allow the app to access your location and leave Bluetooth on when walking your dog for an optimal experience!

Be notified when your dog goes on a walk or comes back

In the Profile section, you can turn on or off the walk alert. If you activate it, you will receive a notification every time your dog goes on an adventure and comes back. This will allow you to be quickly alerted in case of a runaway.

New features are coming soon

Your Minitailz and your app are constantly evolving, so be sure to update them regularly to take advantage of the latest features. Here are two features that will be coming very soon:
  • Live Tracking: temporarily increase the position frequency to track your dog in real-time, which is handy in case of loss or runaway.
  • Proximity Radar: this feature will allow you to find your dog in the last few yards, which is useful if your dog is stuck in a place out of your sight - we have thus saved a dog stuck in a fox trap once!
  • Entry and exit zone alerts (virtual fence)
  • And many other new features to come. Don't hesitate to sign up for the beta test from the app settings to access these features before their official release.
